Systenix is seeking a Senior Applied Aerodynamics Engineer to lead aerodynamic design, analysis, and testing efforts for cutting-edge missile development programs. This position will fulfill a key role within a multi-disciplinary team, leading aerodynamic configuration trades, performance predictions, and analysis of simulated and live flight data. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in missile and aircraft aerodynamics, with expertise in various aeroprediction methodologies, applying CFD results, wind tunnel testing, and flight test data reduction.
Key responsibilities:
Develop aerodynamic databases and performance predictions using CFD results and engineering-level methods across subsonic through hypersonic regimes.
Lead wind tunnel test planning, execution, and data reduction to validate and refine aerodynamic models.
Conduct configuration trade studies balancing aerodynamic performance, stability, and control with structural, propulsion, and packaging constraints.
Support flight test programs through pre-flight predictions, real-time trajectory monitoring, and post-flight data analysis and model correlation.
Collaborate with guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) teams to characterize aerodynamic trends and uncertainties for high-fidelity simulation and autopilot design.
Identify and mitigate aerodynamic risks, such as stability margins, control authority, and thermal/aeroheating effects, throughout design maturation.
Mentor junior engineers and review technical products to ensure analytical rigor, documentation quality, and adherence to corporate standards of excellence.
Interact with customers, stakeholders, and industry partners.
Candidate qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
8-15 years of experience in missile or aircraft aerodynamics, ideally in the defense industry and/or rapid prototyping programs.
Ability to interpret and apply CFD and engineering-level aerodynamic prediction results (e.g., Missile DATCOM) to influence design decisions and performance trades; hands-on CFD execution not required.
Experience with wind tunnel test planning and flight test data analysis.
Working knowledge of stability and control, aeroheating, and GNC development processes.
Strong communication skills and experience supporting technical reviews and customer interactions.
U.S. citizenship required; must possess the ability to obtain and maintain a DoW SECRET security clearance.
